（４８）戻ってきたホットレモン代

When I returned home a message was left. It said at 15:21 some postal thing was delivered but I was absent so please inform of what time I would be home. The message also said Asahi beverage sent it to me. Asahi beer or something? But year-end gift-giving season was already over. I had no idea. Who was Asahi veverage? 家に帰ってくると郵便物預かりのお知らせが届いていた。１５：２１に配達したが留守だったので、再配達の希望を知らせてほしいとの内容だった。アサヒビバレッジが送り主とあった。アサヒビールかなにか？でも歳暮の季節は過ぎてるし。思い当たる節がなかった。アサヒビバレッジって誰？

I telephoned the delivery center. A woman answered me. I  answered the code number on the message strip. Then she said "oh, it is a registered postal cash envelope. Can we deliver it today?" I replied "Yes. I am home tonight" and at the same time I remembered a happening at a vending machine.　配送センターへ電話すると、女性が出てきた。お知らせのコード番号を答えると、現金書留ですねといった。今日、配達してもご都合はいいですかとたずねてきた。いいですよ、夜は家にいますと返事した。と同時に自動販売機での出来事を思い出した。

I was on the way to the Labor Standards Supervision Office. It was very cold and I had a sore throat. I stopped in front of a vending machine and put coins into a its slot to buy a bottle of hot lemon (sweetened lemon drink). But the lamp of "hot lemon" was not lit. I wondered why. I checked the display. It read 20 yen and one yen aluminum coin was returned. I had put it instead of one hundred coin. I  put a right coin and the lamp was lit, then pushed the buttom. But it would not give a bottle to me. I moved a returning lever but no money returned. I gave up and returned to be on my way.　労基署へ行く途中だった。寒かったし、のどが痛かった。ホットレモンを自販で買おうと立ち止まり、硬貨を投入口へ入れた。でもホットレモンの所にランプが点かない。おかしいなと思った。表示を見ると２０円だった。一円玉が返却口にあった。百円玉と間違えて1円玉を入れていた。百円玉を入れなおすとランプは点灯したのでボタンを押した。でもボトルは出てこなかった。返却レバーを回しても返却されない。諦めて、あらためて労基署へ向かった。

On the way back to my office I once walked past the vending machine.  I returned to the machine. The money was small but I wanted to do something for it. A phone number was written on the machine. So I tried to call the number. A woman answered me. I explained what kind of troble happened at the machine. She apologized me. I said I was in a hurry so I did not have time to wait the machine to be fixed. Then she asked of my address. She was going to return the money to me. That was a good idea that I had never expected. 仕事場へ帰る途中、一度、その自販機を通り越したが戻ってきた。金額は少ないけど、何とかしたかった。自販機に連絡先の電話番号があった。電話をかけてみると女性が出てきた。トラブルの状況を説明した。彼女は謝った。こちらは急いでいるので機械が直るのを待っている時間ないと伝えた。すると、こちらの住所を尋ねてきた。その金を送ってくれるという。予想外の提案に、それはいい考えだと思った。

Then tonight, a few days after that happening I happily received my lost one hundred twenty yen. で、今夜、あれから数日たっているが、失くしてた１２０円を受け取った、めでたし、めでたし。
