What are they?
They are San-X's characters, "Sumikko Gurashi", which means "living in the corner".

  Where do they live?
Sumikko Gurashi debuted in 2012 as slightly negative characters who like to stay in the corner of a room. They are super cute characters. They are very popular among Japanese young people.
I am not a Sumikko Gurashi nut, but each character has an interesting personal history so I was fascinated by them. I'll start with a short description of some Sumikko Gurashi characters.
ねこ.jpg
"Neko", a super shy calico cat. It's the third Sumikko character to arrive at the corner.

penguin はてな.jpg
"Penguin?", a penguin who is unsure if he is actually a penguin. It might actually be a Kappa ― a demon from Japanese folklore. It resembles a green penguin, but likes cucumbers and has vague memories having a plate on its head, strongly implying that it is a kappa. The first Sumikko character to arrive at the corner.

とんかつ.jpg
"Tonkatsu", a piece of pork cutlet that was left uneaten, that is 99 percent fat and 1 percent meat. It's the second Sumikko character to arrive at the corner.

しろくま.jpg
"Shirokuma", the polar bear who ran away from the north pole because it dislikes the cold. Heard from the traveling Penguin (Real) that there were warm seas in the south. So, it ran away and ended up in the corner with the other Sumikko characters. It's the fourth Sumikko character to arrive at the corner.

ざっそう.jpg
"Zassou", the weed who is optimistic and dreams of being in a bouquet someday.

What are their everyday lives like?

Zassou the weed, seems to be most positive in Sumikko characters. One day, Zassou was touched by a TV drama. Zassou decided to make a play with other Sumikko characters. They were very cooperative. It was a love story of weeds.
