(564) GADOUHITORIGEIKO [調べる]

Today, I'd like to introduce an old book. This book is for children who want to learn drawing. Katsushika Hokusai, one of famous Ukiyoe artists made this book. I got to know of this book from a guide leaflet of Shiki Museum. Masaoka Shiki was born in Matsuyama about 150 years ago. He was a leading haiku poet. When he was small, he liked drawing and painting pictures. He begged his mother to learn to paint, but she would not allow it. So, he tried to learn drawing by himself. When he was 11 years old, he copied the whole book of "GadoHitoriGeiko" (画道独稽古) borrowed from a friend. This title of the book means teach yourself how to draw pictures. Here are Shiki's copy and the original.

I got interested in this book, so I will talk about this. This page explains how to use this book.

The reason why these Chinese characters of mountain(山)in the head note, are numbered first(一), second(二), and third(三) is to show how the picture should be drawn.
The Kyoka poem written next to the picture instructs how to draw the picture with characters. Please look at the poem and the notes at the top to understand. Here is a picture as an example to give you an overview. Use this as a reference to understand the instructions of other pictures.

Turning pages, I found the samurai's page.

These show that this book consists of quick lessens in simplified drawings.

This page shows how to draw a samurai. In the head note two sets of drawings parts. These parts are characters. All of them are numbered. If you start drawing each part in order. You can finish the picture of a samurai looking at Mt. Fuji with two cranes flying over. There are two Kyoka poems. One is the instruction for drawing Mt. Fuji and cranes. The other is for the samurai sitting on his heels.

(556) Synchronicity of YADOKARI [

In the afternoon, I read about Yadokari in Hawkins's booklet.
In the evening, I saw Yadokari illustrations in a children's TV program. I knew Yadokari is a hermit crab in English, and remembered Natsume Soseki had a hermit-like personality.
At night, I found another hermit crab in a book, Gift from the Sea.
This state of being synchronous might be a kind of synchronicity of Yadokari, hermit crab.

One afternoon in February, at an online meeting, my friends and I enjoyed reading an old booklet written by an American teacher, Hawkins. He taught English in Matsuyama middle school in 1892 and 1893, 25 and 26 in the Meiji era. The school is now Matsuyama East high school. Hawkins wrote about his bathing in summer. He went to Takahama to swim. It goes like this.

Yesterday I picked up a shell, thinking to bring it home. As I held it a teacher called attention to some smaller shells upon the edge of the sea, in which very curious crab-like animals were making their homes, moving back and forth with the waves, crawling on one foot when the waves did not supply motive power. Looking at my shell, I saw the half of an ugly body protruding.
ーTwenty Months in Japanー

裸のヤドカリ s.jpg
a naked YADOKARI (hermit crab)
I thought he didn't know of YADOKARI, because he just mentioned them as curious crab-like animals.

On the same evening, I was watching a children's program of NHK TV. Children tried to get anything begin with YA on the screen. Illustrations of YADOKARI appeared.
ヤドカリ.jpgI instantly remembered about Hawkins's diary. It was a coincident happening.

I just wondered what they call YADOKARI in English. I looked it up in a dictionary of smart phone for the first time. It said YADOKARI is a hermit crab in English. I was a little bit surprised at this word. Because western people expressed the crab as one who lives in solitude. Hermit is unfamiliar word for me, but I know it. Because Natsume Soseki used this word in his first letter from Matsuyama to his former teacher in Tokyo university. He wrote that he has a hermit-like personality, so it is difficult to live in an environment with close relationships of Matsuyama. Natsume Soseki became a teacher of English in Matsuyama middle school after Hawkins and Johnson left the school.

At the night, when I was thinking about a hermit crab, two books titled "Gift from the sea" were coincidentally, right next to me. I had brought them from the bookshelf a few days before. One is a paperback and the other is a pocket-sized one. I bought the same essays by mistake. I had not read them yet. But its title "Gift from the sea" reminded me of hermit crabs. I guess that something about a hermit crab must be written in this book. My guess was right. I found the writing about a hermit crab in the second chapter.

The shell in my hand is deserted. It once housed a whelk, a snail-like creature, and then temporarily, after the death of the first occupant, a little hermit crab, who has run away, leaving his tracks behind him like a delicate vine on the sand.

In 1982 Nicholas Wade had co-authored the book Betrayers of the Truth: Fraud and Deceit in the Halls of Science.
Wade documented how the uncritical acceptance of elite opinions has led to bad science.
For example, the story of Hideyo Noguchi, once hailed as the greatest microbiologist since Louis Pasteur. When he died in 1928, Noguchi had published 200 papers claiming he had identified the causes of yellow fever, polio, rabies and others. Although his work proved wrong 50 years later, he had never been challenged, simply because he worked for the most prestigious research institute of his time.

Noguchi Hideyo is introduced as one of the Japanese English masters in this book. Anyone can get some of his theses from the site of Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Museum. I showed below, one very beginning part from one of his theses. They say that most of his theses proved wrong today. But his English is another thing. I tried reading this part filled with difficult medical words. I cannot say his English was good or not.

This rotating migi(right)-mitsudomoe crest looks very familiar to me. I believe this crest should turn like this, it must turn counterclockwise, but I cannot explain the reason.

So, I decided to search for similar natural phenomena. This crest reminds me of a typhoon.

This is a picture postcard of a typhoon or hurricane. We can see typhoon video on the net,

and I confirm that all typhoons are turning counterclockwise, lefthandedly.

So, my opinion is that the crest called migi(right)-three-comma-shape should be changed to hidari(left)-three-comma-shape. I get confident with my conclusion.

But it doesn't last long. I am astonished to see a cross-section of typhoon or hurricane on the internet.

Please pay attention to the direction of winds.
Air spirals in toward the center in a counter-clockwise pattern.
反時計回り s.jpg
This happens in the northern hemisphere (clockwise in the southern hemisphere), and air spirals out the top in the opposite direction.時計回り s.jpg
Typhoon has two different rotations of its clouds. One is in a counterclockwise pattern at the bottom of it, and the other is a clockwise pattern at the top of it.

Please take a close look at this video of typhoon #19 in 2019, Asian name is Hagibis. The outer thin clouds away from the center appears to rotate in the opposite direction compared to near the center. These are the thin clouds that blow out from the typhoon and flow outward.

Migi-three-comma-shaped crest is not bad naming. Right-three-comma-shaped crest, righthanded-comma-shaped crest is not wrong.
Because I now understand that this shape can rotate both ways, clockwise and counter clockwise just like a typhoon.

I often confused with right and left.
From now on I used clockwise instead of righthanded, and counterclockwise for lefthanded when I talk about spinning.

Seike Shinichi
  Residence: Uwajima City, Ehime, Japan
  Known for: Antigravity
  Fields: Professor of Physics

Uwajima city is my hometown, so I knew of Seike Shinichi. I remember I couldn't understand what he expressed with many mathematical equations in his book. It was about 40 years ago. In this occasion, I googled about him. I knew he had passed away at the age of 72, in 2009. I also got some other information about him.

1. Shortest introduction of him 清家新一ってどんな人?

Key statements: Does the Gravity on Coils of Peculiar Winding Decrease While Electric Currents Flow in the Coils?

2. Abbreviated Report on Prof. Seiki about the use of the G-enery
Professor Shinichi Seiki, Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, developed a somewhat more elaborate theory of the Lorentz-Force, incorporating the use of the "ether."
Starting with the so-called "Kramer-equation," which describes the movements of atoms in the presence of exterior electrical and magnetic fields -- the basic components of thee Lorentz-force --. Professor Seiki conceived of the possibility of creating "negative gravitational energies" by utilizing a suitable electro-magnetic field.

Currently, in a process called NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), we only utilize the charges in spatial electron spins due to the application of magnetic fields. The substance to be examined is placed in a high frequency field, and we observe energy absorption effects peculiar to the frequencies typical of a given molecule of matter.

Seiki went one step further and introduced NER (Nuclear Electrical Resonance), which influences both the polar and the axial spin. Polar spin, he claimed, is directly related to the gravitational field.

Describing a rotation electrical AC field superimposed on DC magnetic field, he claims that an exponential increase of "negative gravitational energies" occurs at a certain resonance frequency. This means that energy from the earth-gravitational field enters the system of the secondary artificial field created by the anti-gravitational motor. The negative G-energies cause a weakening of the earth-gravitational field, ultimately cancelling it altogether. Further depolarization then causes the vehicle to be repulsed by the larger gravitational body (earth).

It seems that the reason Prof. Seiki's NER effects have not been "officially" utilized, is that nuclear electrical resonance can only occur only at extremely high electrical voltage simultaneously with ultra-high AC frequencies.

Below this threshold, the probability of negative-G-energy conditions is extremely small. Above this critical frequency (also called - "Larmor Frequency"), the effect of this type of gravity engine is also dependent upon the electro-magnetic potential of materials used.

Professor Seiki proposes ferromagnetic substances, such as ferrite and ferromagnetic materials such as barium-strontium-titanate. In his design, three spherical condensers are alternately charged and discharged by three magnetic coils. At first glance, the entire idea seems to be just another "perpetuum mobile."

However, the only energy transformed used is that of gravitational energy into mechanical and electrical and vice-versa.

Seiki calculated a power output of 3*10^9 kW for an anti-gravity engine, using one ton each of ferrite and barium-strontium-titanate for design. This is more than total output of a Saturn rocket, but, even so, Seiki's vehicle could carry a payload of about one ton!

Professor Seiki's word does not seem to be taken seriously, as attested to by the fact that DR. WERNHER VON BRAUN considered it of sufficient interest to discuss it personally with him during one of Von Braun's trips to Japan.

Abstract
The Evolutionary Origins of Periodical Cicadas During Ice Ages
J. Yoshimura
Published 1997
Biology
The American Naturalist
Periodical cicadas (Magicicada spp.4)) are known for their strikingly synchronized emergence, strong site tenacity5), and unusually long (17- and 13-yr)a life cycles for insects. Several explanattions have been proposed for the origin and maintenance of synchronization. However, no satisfactory explanations have been made for the origins of the prime-numbered life cycles. I present an evolutionary hypothesis of a forced developmental delay due to climate cooling during ice ages. Under this scenario, extremely low adult densities, caused by their extremely jong juvenile stages, selected for synchronized emergence and site tenacity because of limited mating oppoturities. The prime numbers6) (13 and 17) were selected for as life cycles because these cycles were least ikely to coemerge7), hybridize8), and break down with other synchronized cycles.
4) spp.: species

Q: What are cicadas and specifically Brood X?
Brood X (X is 10 in Roman numerals) is the largest brood of 17-year cicadas. This brood is found in three separate areas centering around Pennsylvania and northern Verginia, Indiana, and easter Tennessee. The largest emergence of Brood X appears as adults only once every 17 years.
Q: Are they safe to be around?
Yes, they don't bite or sting.
They are not toxic to pets fin small amounts. If you have a shellfish, you may have a cicada allergy if you eat them.

I'm going to talk about following things that I did some research.

1. What is Gobousei?
2. Abeno Seimei's crest
3. How to draw a figure of Gobousei
4. Meaning of Gobousei and others

1. What is Gobousei?
Digital Japanese dictionary Daijisen says that it is a five-pointed star made by extending sides of a pentagon. Pentagram in English.
pentagram in a dictionary.jpg
Merriam-Webster English dictionary says pentagram is a figure of a 5-pointed star usually made with alternate points connected by a continuous line and used as a magic or occult symbol.

2. Abeno Seimei's crest
What is a family crest of Abeno Seimei?
This is an amulet for blessing and disaster relief that came from the Middle East. This crest is a talisman born from the popular belief that the devil is dismissed. The name comes from the fact that it was used by Abeno Seimei, who controls the Onmyodo, a type of magic.

Who is Abeno Seimei?
Abeno Seimei was always with Michinaga the Heian period aristocrat, and died at the age of 85 in the second year of Kanko (1005). Until his death as the oldest onmyodo magic master he protected Michinaga from many disasters.

3. How to draw a figure of Gobousei
There are two ways to construct the pentagram. One is by connecting alternate vertices of a pentagon, the other is by extending the edges of a pentagon until the lines intersect. I'd like to take the former way today.
First we draw a pentagon, a regular pentagon. The pentagram can be constructed by connecting alternate vertices of the pentagon. (Vertices are points of intersection of lines.)
pentagon 0.jpgpentagon 1.jpgpentagon 2.jpgpentagon 3.jpgpentagon 4.jpgpentagon 5.jpg

I'll show you 3 different ways of drawing a pentagon. Let them be A, B, and C, respectively.

Method A
pentagon draw way 1.jpgprotractor s.jpg

Draw a circle. Then divide it into five parts with 72 degrees each by a protractor. Even an elementary pupil can do this, but it might be hard to measure correctly 72 degrees by the protractor.
Method B
pentagon draw way 2.jpg

Red segment EF shows the exact length of each pentagon's side. If the radius BC is 2cm. EF=√(√(1+2^2)-1)^2+2^2)=√(10-2√5) [cm]
You can draw a pentagon with a compas. You might get a more precise pentagon, but still looks complicated.

Metod C
pentagon draw way 3.jpg

Inside the circle with a radius AB, draw two half-sized circles. Draw two circles with point F as the center point, so that they touch two half-sized circles. We can get the intersection points, J, K, L, and M. This looks simpler than method A and B.

4. Meaning of Gobousei and others

I learned the method C for the first time at this time's research of pentagram. I also knew that how to draw pentagram was explained at the end of the volume six of Onmyoji(陰陽師)(Master of Yin yang). It is a 13-volume comic book written by Okano Reiko

This picture looks mystical and beautiful, because it also has a yin-yang symbol in it. It is a cosmic dual forces symbol.

Abeno Seimei, Onmyoji (magic master) in the Heian period in Japan used the crest of Gobousei(pentagram) as the symbol of Gogyo shiso (Five Elements Theory). But this is another story, maybe at another time.

The No. 1 locomotive appears in Botchan, a work by the literary giant Natsume Soseki. He wrote that its carriage was about the size of a matchbox. So, they nicknamed it Botchan train.

I soon found the station and bought a ticket without any difficulty. I boarded the train and found that the carriage was about the size of a matchbox. We had only been clattering along for what I judged was five minutes when I had to get off. No wonder the ticket was so cheap. It only cost three sen. (Translated by Alan Turney)

Imported from Germany, this was the first narrow gauge locomotive in Japan and started operation on October 28, 1888. It continued to operate on the plains around Matsuyama for sixty-seven years, until 1954.

The old-style train called Botchan train is now running between Matsuyama city station and Dogo hot spring station. The train's body is a replica of an original steam locomotive that ran at the time of Meiji era, more than 100 years ago. However, today's Botchan train equips with a diesel-powered engine and is serving as a tourist attraction.
